On the morning of November 15, Chairman of the People's Committee of the city, Mr. Le Trung Chinh, presided over a meeting with Aler Grubbs, the Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam.

During the meeting, Chairman Le Trung Chinh shared that the project "Supporting Urban Energy Security in Vietnam in Da Nang", supported by USAID, has been successfully completed.

The project includes several components: supporting Control and Automation Solutions Company (CAS) based in Da Nang in signing a memorandum of understanding with Mobile World Group (MWG) to collaborate on implementing green energy and circular economy projects; conducting training activities to enhance capacity in green bonds, green finance, and sustainable finance for banks and financial institutions; and implementing targeted searches for application.

Through the process of access, exchange, and collaboration, three innovative solutions have been implemented in Da Nang, including: ecological electricity meters; smart charging solutions for two-wheeled vehicles; and charging solutions for electric cars.

Additionally, USAID is currently implementing two projects in Da Nang: specialized training for healthcare professionals in therapy and functional rehabilitation in collaboration with USAID and the University of Danang University of Medicine and Pharmacy; Cooperation in promoting university education and improving training quality.

Regarding the project on cooperation in promoting university education and improving training quality, USAID is sponsoring a collaborative project to innovate higher education between Indiana University and the University of Da Nang, Hanoi National University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology from 2022 to 2026. USAID provides technical assistance in the form of non-refundable support, including four pillars: university management innovation; improving teaching quality; enhancing research capacity and innovation; promoting university and business partnerships.

The city's leadership fully agrees with suggestions made by USAID to maximize the effectiveness of the three collaborative projects between the two parties. Da Nang has strengths in information technology and digital transformation, along with a system of high-quality universities to meet the requirements of the projects.

The city has sought input from relevant departments on proposals for cooperation in areas such as the environment, waste management, clean energy, renewable energy, and financial technology.

Chairman Le Trung Chinh assigned the Department of Foreign Affairs to draft a memorandum of understanding between the People's Committee and USAID, requesting relevant departments to conduct in-depth research, propose specific contents and programs for cooperation activities.

Director of USAID Vietnam, Aler Grubbs, expressed gratitude to the city's People's Committee for the ongoing collaboration on various programs with USAID, aiming to achieve the goal of becoming a green city by 2030.

Specifically, USAID has collaborated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of Industry and Trade in the city to implement many programs in the fields of environment and energy, such as solid waste classification, support for schools to develop green school models, and granting certificates for the use of clean energy for some export-oriented enterprises.

Ms. Aler Grubbs hopes that in the future, the city will continue to coordinate, share, build ideas, and promote the relationship between the two parties, demonstrating tangible evidence of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States.
