Da Nang and Salavan (Laos) signed a cooperation program for the 2023 -2027 period

On July 5th, a high-ranking delegation of Da Nang City led by Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the City’s Party Committee, Head of the City’s National Assembly Delegation Nguyen Van Quang visited and worked with Salavan Province (Laos). Also attending were Standing Vice Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh, Chairman of the City’s Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee Ngo Xuan Thang. Standing Deputy Secretary of the Salavan Province’s Party Committee Bounthavy Duonglasy hosted and worked with the delegation.

Deputy Secretary Bounthavy Duonglasy congratulated Secretary Nguyen Van Quang and Da Nang’s high-ranking delegation upon their visit and work in the province; he affirmed that the visit was especially significant during the period when both countries’ Parties, States and peoples are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Laos (September 5th, 1962 - September 5th, 2022) and 45 years since the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos (July 18th, 1977 - July 18th, 2022). 

Deputy Secretary Bounthavy Duonglasy said that in the past time, localities have synchronously implemented solutions for socio-economic development and national defense and security, solved negative issues in public opinion and security and order, and searched for remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers to return them home. In particular, the Province’s Party Committee and government drastically directed the solutions to control the pandemic, recovered and grew the economy, implemented the national target programs well, and improved the living standard of the people.

Deputy Secretary Bounthavy Duonglasy affirmed that Salavan’s Party Committee, government, and people are always aware that in the province’s development, there has been the active support of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, in which, Da Nang has considerately helped with training human resources and supported the construction of schools, medical equipment, and aided in times of natural disasters, such as storms and floods.

Deputy Secretary Bounthavy Duonglasy hoped that both sides would continue to strengthen cooperation in the fields of politics and diplomacy and consolidate the special friendship and comprehensive cooperation, including maintaining the high-level delegation of local leaders for every other year’s work and visit, and coordinating to closely monitor students from Salavan Province who are living and studying in Da Nang. He also proposed Da Nang City to facilitate businesses to come to Salavan for investment survey and support the province to build a war museum and a medical school to improve people’s lives.

On this occasion, Secretary Nguyen Van Quang invited Salavan’s leaders, departments, branches and localities to visit and work in Da Nang; he also invited businesses to participate in the National Fair to be held in Da Nang in August 2022 to approach and promote local goods.

Within the meeting’s framework, the People’s Committees of Da Nang City and Salavan Province signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for the 2023-2027 period in many fields: scholarship, cooperation in teaching Vietnamese, tourism, commerce, etc. On this occasion, the industry and trade sector of both localities also signed a program of cooperation.
