The Education Sector has Strengthened the Prevention of Acute Respiratory Infections Caused by New COVID-19.

The Department of Education and Training of the city required heads of units and schools to seriously carry out urgent tasks, including: cleaning schools and classes, disinfecting kitchen utensils, personal items, etc. before students go back to school after the Lunar New Year holiday. At the same time, it was also required to promote activities of communication, propaganda, education and guidance on disease prevention skills in the winter-spring season and prevention of acute pneumonia caused by the new strain of COVID-19.

On 28th January, the City Department of Education and Training issued document No.193/SGĐT-CTrTT on strengthening the prevention of acute respiratory infections caused by COVID-19.

Accordingly, the Department of Education and Training requested heads of units and schools to seriously carry out urgent tasks, including: cleaning schools and classes, disinfecting kitchen utensils and personal items before students come back to school after the Lunar New Year holiday.

At the same time, it was required to strengthen activities of communication, propaganda, education and instruction on disease prevention skills in the winter-spring season, especially for the prevention of acute respiratory infections caused by COVID-19.

In particular, strengthening the close coordination between schools, families and local government in educating and guiding children and students on disease prevention skills, self-care behaviors, regulations on food safety, personal hygiene and environmental sanitation; ensuring proper nutrition in combination with physical training regimes suitable to the age and physical condition of students and the conditions of their families to prevent epidemics.

At the same time, guiding officials, teachers, and students to limit direct contact with people with acute respiratory infections; in case of contact with an infected person, it is necessary to wear a proper medical mask and keep a distance; keeping warm and maintaining personal hygiene by washing hands with soap and using antiseptic mouthwash to prevent pneumonia; covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, preferably with a cloth or handkerchief to reduce the spread of respiratory secretions.

Besides, the units in the city were required to soundly carry out sanitation activities at educational institutions; proactively coordinate with medical facilities in the city to strengthen medical work at schools; effectively organize activities of primary healthcare and disease prevention at schools; ensure nutrition and food safety at schools; ensure adequate supply of drinking and daily-life water in accordance with prescribed standards, regularly clean the school grounds, clear sewers, collect garbage around the school and disinfect classrooms.

The Department of Health also required the units of the city to closely monitor and coordinate to effectively manage the health of students, teachers and officials of the schools; early detect cases of disease, immediately notify the health agency for timely examination and treatment to avoid the spread of disease in the schools; strengthen the inspection and supervision of the education sector together with health sector, mobilize the participation of the Representative Board of parents and students of the schools in supervision of student healthcare, sanitation condition and food safety at schools in order to ensure the health of students.

In particular, the Department of Education and Training required the heads of units and schools to recommend teachers and students to be on alert for inaccurate information posted on some social networks, creating a sense of insecurity for people about acute respiratory infections caused by new COVID-19; it is recommended to only select official information provided by relevant functional agencies, Central and local press agencies.
