About 200 Former Overseas Students of ITEC in Viet Nam Participating in the ITEC Day 2019

In the afternoon on 22nd October, the Da Nang People’s Committee cooperated with the Embassy of India in Viet Nam to organize the ITEC Day 2019. The event had the participation of Mr. Le Trung Chinh – Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, Mr. Praynay Verma - Indian Ambassador to Viet Nam, the representatives of agencies, branches, departments of the city and about 200 former overseas students of ITEC in Viet Nam.

Mr. Praynay Verma - Indian Ambassador to Viet Nam stated that: “As of now, more than 1,500 candidates have been awarded the ITEC Scholarship in Viet Nam. These former overseas students are integral bridges, expressing the willingness and friendship between the two nations and people. We hoped that this figure will increase more in future”.

As said by Mr. Praynay Verma – Indian Ambassador to Viet Nam, the cooperation relationship between India and Viet Nam has not been only one way, but rather an exchange of experience and knowledge. Through cooperation programs, Viet Nam would receive benefits from the initiatives of capacity building in which there would be opportunities for India to gain experience and learn modes of implementation from Viet Nam.

Mr. Praynay Verma stated that, it was a pride for India to cooperate with Viet Nam to establish a new program called e-ITEC in the framework of the ITEC Scholarship. This Program applies the latest technologies for distance learning.

Previously, on 7th October, the first e-ITEC Program was organized via cooperation between the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Ha Noi National University with the registration for participation of about 50 Vietnamese students. The Program took 8 weeks with the main contents of data analysis and R-programming.

Mr. Le Trung Chinh – Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee stated that: “We highly appreciated the support from the Government of India in education and training. The ITEC Scholarship Program not only brings enhancement for the quality of the human resources of Viet Nam but more importantly, students pursuing the ITEC Program would be bridges to connect the friendship between the two nations’ people”.

Mr. Le Trung Chinh – Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee wishes that the ITEC Scholarship Program would continue to be maintained in the coming time, creating more opportunities for Vietnamese students in general and Da Nang students in particular to approach an advanced education and experience cultural characteristics of India.

At the event, the former overseas students of ITEC shared their experience and memories from during their studies in India.

The ITEC Program was established on 15th September 1964 with the target of sharing the outcomes of the socio-economic development and technical achievements of India with the international community on the basis of mutual benefit cooperation. The partner relationship within the ITEC Program between India and Viet Nam began in 1970. With more than 200 packages of scholarships offered yearly, Viet Nam is presently one of the countries receiving the largest number of ITEC Scholarships from the Government of India.
