On 23rd October, at the meeting with the International Fencing Federation (FIE), led by Mr. Evgeny Tsoukhlo – FIE Sport and Technical Manager, Mr. Huynh Duc Tho – Chairman of the City People’s Committee highly appreciated the promotion for the establishment of their first asian fencing academy in Da Nang City; and nominated the Department of Culture and Sports to cooperate with FIE to speed up the construction and establishment of the academy as well as to organize related activities to develop this genre.

At the meeting, Mr. Evgeny Tsoukhlo – FIE Sport and Technical Manager stated that fencing began as a sport for the French nobility in the 15th century, its modern format comes from the late 19th century and it has been in the Olympics since 1896. FIE had no such academy in Asia, so FIE has sent experts to carry out surveys in some Asian countries to plan for the establishment of their first fencing academy in Asia.
The representatives of the Executive Committee of FIE wish to establish their first Asian fencing academy in Da Nang City. Hence, the academy would regularly train athletes in the Asian region to become good coaches who might directly teach and train others in Asian countries and around the world. The duration of training will be 09 months including 03 scholastic philosophies of fencing, sport psychology, educational pedagogy, sport medicine, and the management and organization of fencing competitions.
On behalf of the City’s leaders, Chairman Huynh Duc Tho highly appreciated the establishment of the fencing academy in Da Nang City and stated that the City would be ready to organize a world fencing championship with the participation of more than 150 countries and territories. As stated by Mr. Huynh Duc Tho, recently, the City successfully organized many big events, including APEC, the Asian Beach Games, Ironman and an International Marathon. Therefore, the establishment of a fencing academy would create conditions for fencing in Da Nang to be more strongly developed and for many outstanding athletes to be trained by good experts and coaches of FIE.
Together with an assurance for facilities to train athletes according to the criteria as specified by FIE, Chairman Huynh Duc Tho requested the Department of Culture and Sports to promptly form the genre of fencing, purchase tools and equipment for training and organize fencing training for students in Da Nang City.
