Da Nang Recognised as 'Asia's Leading Festival & Event Destination'
Da Nang has won the title ‘Asia’s Leading Festival & Event Destination’ at the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony 2016 which took place at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort on 15 October.

The city has surpassed 8 other nominees, comprising Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Seoul, Shanghai, and Singapore, to win this prestigious award.

The award ceremony took place with the presence of Vice President of the WTAs Chris Frost, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung, and about 200 hospitality leaders from across the regions.

The city’s InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort took home three awards, namely Asia's Leading Hotel Dining & Entertainment Experience, Viet Nam's Leading Resort and Viet Nam's Leading Spa Resort.  The Naman Retreat was honoured as ‘Asia’s Leading Retreat’.

The WTAs were launched in 1993 to acknowledge excellence in the travel and tourism industry.  Heralded as the ‘travel industry's equivalent to the Oscars by The Wall Street Journal, the awards are given based on the votes of the public and travel professionals worldwide.  Each year the WTAs cover the globe with a series of regional gala ceremonies staged to recognise and celebrate individual and collective successes within each key geographical region.

The WTA award demonstrates the city’s firm stance on developing tourism into a local spearhead economic sector.  Da Nang was the first city in Viet Nam, and the Southeast Asian region, to host a leg of the Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race.  The city has successfully organised the Beach-Leisure & M.I.C.E Travel Mart Da Nang, Viet Nam 2016 in June and the fifth Asian Beach Games last month.  As planned, Da Nang will host the 2017 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation) Summit next year.
