The city has surpassed 8 other nominees, comprising Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Seoul, Shanghai, and Singapore, to win this prestigious title. Da Nang met WTA’s strict criteria including the attraction of natural resources and tourism products, the hosting of international-level events and festivals, and visitor satisfaction with the destination, to win this award.
The host of the WTA Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony 2016 and the title ‘Asia’s Leading Festival & Event Destination’ have contributed to affirm Da Nang’s prestige and reputation in the world, as well as make the city, and Viet Nam as a whole, into a list of modern and safe destinations with many international-level events on the global tourism map.
Also at this Gala Ceremony, the city’s InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort took home three awards, namely Asia's Leading Hotel Dining & Entertainment Experience, Viet Nam's Leading Resort and Viet Nam's Leading Spa Resort. The Naman Retreat was honoured as ‘Asia’s Leading Retreat’.
Addressing the press conference, Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung stressed that the authorities and people of Da Nang would do their utmost to ensure the safety of visitors from both home and abroad, continue to invest in tourism infrastructure as well as to offer the best possible services. In addition, the city would strive to become a dynamic tourism city and host more international-level events in the years ahead.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh report that, the city successfully host a leg of the Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race in February, organised the Beach-Leisure & M.I.C.E Travel Mart Da Nang, Viet Nam 2016 in June and the fifth Asian Beach Games in September this year. As planned, Da Nang will host the 2017 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation) Summit next year.
