Flag-Raising Ceremony for ABG5
A ceremony to raise the flags of the 42 countries participating in the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5) took place at the took place at the city’s Eastern Sea Park on 22 September.  In attendance were Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee (DPC), Mr. Huynh Duc Tho and DPC’s Vice-Chairman Dang Viet Dung along with representatives from ABG5’s participating sports delegations.

The ceremony featured the protocol for each National Olympic Committee of flag-raising, national anthem and exchange of gifts with a local official.

 

Host country Viet Nam, together with Qatar and Maldives, made up the first delegations to be welcomed officially to ABG5.  The team leaders then took it in turn to exchange souvenir gifts with Mr. Huynh Duc Tho, DPC’s Chairman cum Vice-Chairman of ABG5 Steering Committee.

 

It is reported that about 3,1000 athletes from 42 countries and territories will compete in 14 sports, 22 disciplines and 172 events for 165 sets of medals of ABG5; along with 1,500 coaches, 550 international inspectors and referees; 600 domestic and international reporters as well as more than 1,500 volunteers, and a large number of health, security and traffic safety forces are to be involved in the Asian biennual sporting event. 

 

It is scheduled that the international press conference for ABG5 will be held today (23 September) and the official opening ceremony of the sporting event will start at the East Sea Park at 8.00pm on 24 September.
