US Senator Robert E Filner recently visited Da Nang, and gave gifts to families of AO victims, as part of a nine-day fact-finding trip to Viet Nam.  The Senator also attended the inauguration ceremony of Facility No 3 at the Centre for Sponsoring AO/dioxin and Disadvantaged Children of Da Nang.
 

On 11 January in celebration of Lunar New Year 2012, the year of the Dragon, the Da Nang People's Committee met with and praised the expatriates who are living, working and studying in the city. The Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Van Huu Chien, expressed his sincere gratitude, and recognised the great contribution made by foreign individuals and organisations to the city’s development.  

 

US veteran Chuck Palazzo has spent the past 40 years compensating victims of the Agent Orange he helped spray during his 13 months serving in the Vietnam War.

 

Palazzo arrived in Da Nang in the Central Region of Viet Nam in 1970 as a US marine when he was 17 years old. But he returned to the United States after 13 months and withdrew himself from the Marine Corps. after realizing how much toxins the war had put on Vietnamese people.
 

On 15 December, the Huong Duong Kindergarten was inaugurated at 158 Do Thuc Tinh Street, Cam Le District.  This was a humanitarian project for Da Nang, supported and sponsored by the US Embassy and the US Pacific Command (USPC).

 

A student group from Da Nang won a special prize at the Asian Children’s Film Festival 2011 which was held recently in Japan.  The film “Lan, don’t cry” was shot by the film-making group of Phan Thi Thuy Dung, Trinh Lan Phuong and Vo Tuan Quang from Tay Son Junior High School in Da Nang.
