The World Heritage Road provides an unequalled cultural and historical itinerary at the meeting point of ancient Indo – Sino cultures. As it winds through the breathtaking beauty of central Vietnam from Vinh to Da Lat, the route takes in five of Vietnam’s six World Heritages. These are Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park with its magnificent caves; Hue Citadel, part of the serene old imperial capital; Hoi An Old Town, a well preserved commercial port of the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries; and My Son Sanctuary, a complex of vestiges of the old Champa culture with much remarkable architecture. The Royal Ceremonial Music of Hue was recognized as a World Intangible Heritage in November 2003.
In addition to being a significant tourist route in its own right, the World Heritage Road is an adjunct to the East-West Economic Corridor. This links the seaport city of Danang and central Vietnam with Laos, Northeast Thailand and Myanmar, and their multiform histories and culture, abundant attractions and great potential for tourism development.
