* Functions: The Danang Department of Science and Technology is mainly responsible for:

- Technological advance’ research, implementation and application

- Technology and technological transfer

-  Environment

-  Industrial property, technological initiatives and improvement.

- Standards, measurements, quality

- Information technology

- Information regarding science and technology

- State inspection of science, technology and environment

- Management of the Departmental agencies

• Specific task:

- Carry out research and submit to the Chairman of the DPC for approval in concretizing all guidelines, policies… involving science, technology and environment suitable for the conditions and characteristics of Danang and State and competent Ministry regulations.

- Make plans and submit them to the Chairman of the DPC for approval regarding the development programs of science, technology and environmental protection in conformity with the Danang’s socio-economic development orientations and report to the Minister of Science and Technology.

- Instruct and orient scientific organizations to draw plans for research into technological advances and their application to production and daily activities.

- Submit to the DPC for approval in the monitoring of the implementation of programs, projects, and scientific-technological theses funded by the State budget.

- Manage all technological transfer activities; monitor and guide the evaluation of technological standards among economic organizations;

- Appraise State level technological standards of local important invested projects.

- Draw plans and measures for local environmental protection as regulated by the law; monitor and co-implement inter-agency environmental protection measures in the city; actively appraise or report the environmental impacts on investment projects in the city; inspect and monitor the environmental situations in local areas under the guidance of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.

- Manage Standards-Measurements-Quality of products and goods according to the current law

- Manage activities involving initiatives, industrial property in compliance with the current law and other legal documents of the government and Ministry.

- Carry out State inspection of organizations and individuals of every sector in the implementation of policies and laws on science, technology and environmental protection.

- Examine and grant registration licenses to Danang scientific-technological organizations of every economic sector pursuant to Decree 35-HDBT dated January 28, 1992 of the Ministerial Board (current Government) and inter-ministerial circular No. 195 dated November 13, 1992 of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and Governmental Personnel Administration Board.

- Act as a standing agency of the City Council of Science and Technology

- Manage relevant units as stipulated in the Article 12, Decree 15/CP dated March 02, 2003 of the government and the decentralization of the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment to the Chairman of the DPC.

- Manage the department’s organization, cadres, finance and assets according to the assignment and the decentralization of the DPC and State regulations.
