The Danang People’s Committee approved the “Construction of Danang into an Environmental City” with total funding of VNĐ6,058bil. The three-stage project started in 2008 and will end in 2020 with basic criteria including 100% of industrial and domestic grey water being treated; 70% of solid waste recycled; 25% of water reused; clean water for 90% of urban and 70% of rural residents, air pollution index (API) below 100 and an urban treed area of 3-4m2/person. This is the first approved “environmental city” project nationally. With this project, Danang strives to become an environmental friendly city, a green and clean “heaven” for living.    
 

The chairman of the Danang People’s Committee Tran Van Minh signed the contract with Mr. Joe Ghazzal, representative of Global 2000, Malaysia for fireworks and management of the International Firework Competition 2009 in Danang (DIFC09). The competition will be held in Danang from 27 to 28 March 2009.
 

Danang City has built 126 houses for underprivileged women to rent at low rates, the chairwoman of the municipal Association for Underprivileged Women and Children said Tuesday. The houses are intended for poor single mothers who don’t own a house.
 

On 12 August, a meeting was held to mark the 30th anniversary of the Viet-Laos Friendship Association of Danang City. The meeting summarized the development of friendly relations and full cooperation between the people of the two countries in general, and the previous Quang Nam – Danang Province and the present Danang City in particular.   
 

Da Nang City train station has reduced the price of one-way tickets from the central coastal city to Ho Chi Minh City, the station’s deputy head Do Thai Lam said Thursday.
