I. Cooperative relations
1. Culture
- The Danang Cham Museum is cooperating with Sydney Western University and the New South Wales Museum in surveying the situation of the Cham Museum and training in conservation for the museum staff.
- NSW Museum supported an international exhibition of Cham sculpture in Sydney in 2004.
2. Education - Training
- At present, the Danang Department of Foreign Affairs and Department of Education - Training are working with the Australian Ministry of Education in promoting IT network project in schools.
- There are the cooperative programs between Australian universities and Danang University
+ Cooperation with QLD University in training for Masters and Doctorates.
+ Cooperation with RMIT University in the Library Cooperation Program and Data Exploitation.
3. Health
- Danang Hospital was funded US$50,000 by AusAID and Danang Foster’s Company to improve Ear - Nose - Throat and Teeth - Jaw - Face and Ophthalmology wards.
- The Sydney Medical University provided some diagnostic equipment worth US$30,000 for Danang Hospital. Some Australian NGOs also supported Danang Hospital with specialised health equipment.
- Danang Hospital had cooperative programs with some Australian health organisations, including Sydney Medical University, Australian Royal Ear-Nose-Throat Association and the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital in training doctors for Danang City and Quang Nam Province.
II. Cooperation with Australian localities
- By 1997, Quang Nam - Danang Province established a relationship with the State of NSW in investment, planning for tourism development, education - training, health, and Cham Culture research and restoration. Some cooperative achievements resulted from these relations.
- With the support and assistance of the former Australian ambassador, Danang City established friendly and cooperative relationship with Newcastle City in NSW. During the visit to Australia in June 2001, the chairman of the Danang PC signed an MoU on establishing cooperative relations with Newcastle City in investment, trade, tourism, health, vocational training and sports.
- In June 2002, the Danang delegation led by First Deputy secretary of the Danang Party Committee Phan Nhu Lam made a working visit to Australia to find ways for further cooperation with Newcastle City.
- Within the scope of the MOU between the two cities, the Hunter Valley Training Company and the Danang Economic Technical University are cooperating to establish a personnel training center with funding of Aus $200,000. In the first stage, the center will organise training courses in hotel and tourism professional skills. Negotiations have been completed and related procedures will be submitted to the Danang PC before operation.
- The Danang PC and the Development Ministry of QLD State signed an MOU on cooperation. Under the MOU, a Joint Task group will be established to propose cooperative projects of which total planning and tourism developement and investment promotion for Danang City will be the main points.
