* Status of the Danang post-telecommunication network

Being one of the three major centers of the national post-telecommunication network, on the international cable line with the international sea cable station in the area of Hoa Hai ward, Ngu Hanh Son district of Danang City, sufficient for meeting demand of organizations, individuals in the city area, Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands.

- Transmission network includes 9 provincial transmission routes using fiber optic cable systems and 3 ones using micro-wave.

The whole network currently comprises 80 kilometers of cables, 110,000 copper bi-cables, 175,258 kilometers of bi-cables, 305 kilometers of pipes, 369 kilometers of post lines, 1,899 cable tanks, 733 cable boxes and 3,537 cable chests.
The authorities of the Danang post office can meet demand of modern transmission technology of customers.

Currently, Danang has 21 types of switchboards, including 02 OCB EB switchboards with a total installment volume of 80,818 digits.

- By October 2003, there are total 128,249 subscribers in the city, including 32,523 mobile ones.

Subscriber density: 17.3 telephones per 100 head. All 14 villages and 9 border protection stations are also equipped with telephones.

- Internet subscribers: 16,970; Pagers: 814; There are 62 post offices in the city. Of these, one is first level, 5 are second level, 56 are third level and 12 are communal cultural level. The city post network satisfies all customers’ demand.

The city has 04 delivery routes of second level with 90 kilometers long, and 32 ones of third level served by four-wheel vehicles with 457 kilometers long.

* Development orientations

Develop a strong and modern post and communications system so as to be fully recognized as Central Viet Nam’s post and telecommunication center.

1. Post:

Strongly develop the overall postal network, shorten the distance between post offices and reduce the people per post office ratio; further develop postal networks in Lien Chieu, Ngu Hanh Son and Hoa Vang districts; increase mail delivery from 3 to 4 times per day by 2010; automatise every postal service.

2. Telecommunications:

Modernizing some technical centers at 45 Tran Phu, 30 Tran Quoc Toan, 36 Le Loi, 4 Ong Ich Khiem, September 2nd streets...

- Circuit conversion system: It is expected to have 38 telephones per 100 persons by 2010.

Transmission system: Install cable system along most main routes in 2001; continue to install cables and tunnels to the rest in 2001-2010; minimize the use of copper cables.

- Telecommunication service: further develop domestic and international telecommunication services such as facsimile, telephone, mobile phone, pager, public call, data transfer, coastal communication, videophone, etc. with high quality that can meet local demands; especially, focus on Internet services suitable for local demands and Danang’s current trend of the social-economic development.

- Trade in public internet services, experimental video-conferencing services in collaboration with Hanoi post office.
