* Status:

Danang has a comparatively good road network. The total length of the city’s roads is 382,583 kilometers (apart from alleys and pathways). This includes 70,865 kilometers of national routes, 99,716 kilometers of provincial routes, 67 kilometers of rural roads and 81,672 kilometers of inner-city roads. The roads are 8 m wide on average. Road density varies from 3 km/km2 in the central city areas to 0.33 km/km2 in rural areas.

Of the 77 bridges in the city, 34 are permanent and 43 are temporary.

- Tourist transportation: There are 30 new style well equipped means of transport that meet aesthetic and technical demands. They are periodically quality-tested, license-granted and insured by tourist administration, and transportation and public works agencies. Most of the drivers have been trained in foreign language and tourist service courses.

- Transportation for Public Travelers: The Danang enterprise of passenger transportation and trading services has 3 coach stations at 31, 33 and 35 Dien Bien Phu street, Thanh Khe district that can serve the city and other cities and provinces nationwide, and to Savanakhet province (Laos).

- Bus: With 30 buses, the Danang bus system can serve the inner city and suburbs and Quang Nam province’s localities such as Hoi An, Tam Ky, Nam Phuoc and Ai Nghia. They all have good quality with polite services and reasonable prices. At every bus stop, there are guide boards and shelter.

- Taxi: There are 4 taxi companies operating in the city: Dana Taxi (Tel: 84.511.815815), Airport Taxi (Tel: 84.511.825555), Huong Lua Taxi (Tel: 84.511.828282), and Song Han Taxi (Tel: 84.511.655655) and Song Han Taxi (Tel: 84.511.655655). They are relatively good and convenient. Each company has a different service price, ranging from 6,000 to 7,000 VND per kilometer.

- Motorbike and pedicab services: Many motorcycles and pedicabs can be found in front of hotels, restaurants, tourist sites, recreation parks and main streets of the city to serve tourists. At some hotels and in main streets attracting the large number of tourists, the local government has established some self-managed pedicab teams to coordinate in managing, informing service price, and keeping social security and order.

* Development orientation:

Inter-provincial and international transportation:

- Quickly complete the expansion and upgrade of Ngo Quyen Street – the final point of the East – West Economic Corridor from Northeast Thailand to Tien Sa Port.

- National Highway 1A: upgrade and expand the road from Hoa Cam intersection to Hoa Phuoc in accordance with the standard of urban roads; Continue building the Hochiminh Road along the foot of the mountains to the west of the National Road 1A, of which there is a common road shared by the highway routes of Hue-Danang-Dung Quat through the Hai Van tunnel.

- National highway 14B: since 2001, the routes of Tien Sa port - Ngo Quyen street - Tuyen Son bridge (48-meter section) linking to the National highway 1A and Hoa Cam - Tuy Loan routes have been upgraded; continue upgrading the route from Tuy Loan to Hoa Khuong of National highway 14B - the East-West Transport Corridor of Trans-Asian route.

- Expand 4 gateways to become high-class urban city roads.

- Build key traffic points (Hue, Hoa Cam T-Junction).

- Continue completing the routes of Lien Chieu – Thuan Phuoc, and East Bach Dang; implement the construction of Son Tra – Non Nuoc – Hoi An route to be completed by 2005.

- Expand, upgrade and build some east-west routes linking the inner city to the highway, Hochiminh National Road, provincial roads Nos 601, 602, and other routes connecting inter-commune centers of Hoa Vang district.

* Inner-city transportation:

- Invest in upgrading inner-city routes to give priority to the main roads.

- Establish roundabouts at some intersections in the inner-city.

- Complete the traffic signals system in the city.

- Complete the upgrade of inner-city routes by 2010.

- Constructing:

     + Tuyen Son bridge linking Ngu Hanh Son district, Non Nuoc and Bac My An tourist resorts to Hoa Cuong tourist-sport-cultural park
     + A bridge linking Thuan Phuoc ward to Son Tra district.
     + Thuy Tu bridge across the Cu De River linking Hoa Khanh industrial zone to Lien Chieu industrial zone.
     + A bridge across the Cam Le River linking the economic exchange center of communes of Hoa Vang district to the inner city to serve the socio-economic exchange of the city’s proximity areas.
     + Repair and upgrade Red bridge, and Nam O bridge.

- Complete passenger services, move the inter-provincial coach station to Hoa Phat and Hoa Minh communes; plan parking sites in the city; invest in building a city center for buses and taxies including parking places, and kinds of car to serve the travel needs of the city people.

- Develop the rural transport system; by the end of 2003, attempt to cover asphalt 30% of ward and commune roads; synchronously upgrade rural transport routes in Hoa Vang district to facilitate trucks with heavy loads.
