* Status:
Danang port is at latitude 16017’33” North and longitude 180020’30’’East. The pilot station is at latitude 16010’North and longitude 180011’East. It is influenced by semi-diurnal tides with the average water level difference being 0.9 meter. Danang port network consists of Tien Sa Sea Port and the Han River Port. The total yard area is 125,350 m2 and the total warehouse area is 22,764 m2. The length of berths is 1,647 m2 and total area of berths is 27,633 m2. The Port’s throughput is 3-4 million tons per year.
Danang Port is 310 nautical miles from Hai Phong Port, 520 nautical miles from Sai Gon Port, 550 nautical miles from Hong Kong, 610 nautical miles from Kao Slung (Taiwan), 720 nautical miles from Manila (Philippines), 860 nautical miles from Komponchom (Cambodia), 960 nautical miles from Singapore, 1,030 nautical miles from Taipei (Taiwan), 1060 nautical miles from Satalip (Thailand), 1,400 nautical miles from Malaysia, 2045 nautical miles from Shang Hai, and 2,340 nautical miles from Yokohama (Japan).
The Danang port has sufficient modern facilities to satisfy customers’ demands including 7 tugboats from 305HP to 1750 HP; 16 mobile cranes from 5 to 8 tons; 19 forklifts from 1.5 tons to 42 tons, including two reach stackers of 42 tons; 6 tractors; 11 excavators and 25 trucks of all kinds. With its favorable location, modern equipment and highly skilled staff, Danang port is involved in: handling, delivering, receiving and storing cargo; piloting vessels in and out of the port; trading in land and marine transportation; cargo transporting; trading in port yards and warehouses; repairing vessels and vehicles; shipping cargo to some foreign countries; goods service and others.
* Tien Sa Seaport
Located on Danang Bay.
- Total length of berths: 897 meters, including 2 finger piers (4 berths) and 01 wharf.
- Depth at piers: 11 meters at low tide.
- Total yard area: 115,000 m2
- Total warehouse area: 20,290 m2.
- Can berth vessels up to 30,000 DWT and specialised vessels including: RORO ships, container ships, large and medium-sized passenger ships, and vessels carrying overlength and overweight cargo.
- Throughput capacity: over 3 million tons per year.
* Han River Port:
Located on the western bank of the lower reaches of the Han River.
- Length of approach channel: 2.5 nautical miles (from Tien Sa to Han River)
- Depth of approach channel: 6.2 meters
- Total length of berths: 750 meters (8 wharves)
- Depth at berth: 6 to 7 meters at low tide
- Total yard area: 10,350 m2
- Total warehouse area: 2,474 m2 (two warehouses).
- Can berth vessels up to 5,000 DWT, container ships, small and medium-sized passenger ships.
- Throughput: 1million tons per year.
* Orientation for Development:
- Upgrade the Danang ports (Tien Sa sea port and Han River port) and build Lien Chieu port to receive large amounts of freight from East-West corridor to serve Lien Chieu, Hoa Khanh, and Danang Industrial Zones and the key economic areas of Central Vietnam and the Western highlands.
- Increase Tien Sa’s handling capacity to 2.2-2.4 million tons per year in 2003, and 3.6-3.9 million tons in 2010 and facilitate the vessels up to 10,000-30,000 DWT in 2003; become the general import and export port and serve Danang, Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc industrial zones (Quang Nam) and international sea travelers; newly built wharf No 3 and expand its stations to attract more than 70,000 international sea tourists annually.
- Han Riverport:
+ Upgrade and improve wharves Nos 1 to 6 to serve local tourism and domestic goods transport; build tourist berths by the river and dredge Han river and the Co Co branch for tourist purposes;
+ Continue to building dykes and tourist berths along the Han river to develop tourism and move the An Hai Bac, An Hai Tay shipbuilding units to new areas;
+ Clear wharves Nos 7, 8 and 9 and the petroleum port of Area 5 after 2005. The Port of Military Zone 5, the military petroleum port will be given appropriate planning approval by the Ministry of Defense.
- Lien Chieu Port:
+ Since 2000, under the Decision 202/1999/QD-TTg, set up a wharf with capacity of 1.6 million tons per year. It is estimated that by 2010, it will handle 8-8.5 million tons per year and accommodate 50.000 DWT vessels to Lien Chieu, Hoa Khanh industrial zones and other industrial parks. It will be a key point for goods circulation to Laos and Northeast Thailand via Road No 14B and No 9 linking with Trans Asian routes along the East-West Economic Corridor of Project R2 and the expanded Sub Mekong regions cooperation.
- Replan the ports used for petroleum discharge and move My Khe petroleum port to Danang Bay.
- Link civil to military ports serving the economy to improve the regional port’s capacity.
- Marine transportation:
+ Improve and dredge the Han river and the Vinh Dien - Tuy Loan and Co Co - Thu Bon branches.
+ Invest in developing marine means of transport with small capacity vessels to provide more favorable conditions and reduce transport costs for purchasing and consuming industrial products.
